History & Impact

Our History

Queer Power Alliance (QPA) was founded in 2004 as LGBTQ Allyship, created by a small group of LGBTQIA+ leaders, activists, and organizers committed to building solidarity across movements for social and economic justice. From the beginning, the organization focused on supporting LGBTQIA+ communities through education, advocacy, and community connection.

In 2023, LGBTQ Allyship formally became Queer Power Alliance to better reflect our evolution from an ally-focused organization to a by-and-for, community-rooted organization building collective power for LGBTQIA+ liberation. This shift clarified our commitment to grassroots organizing, leadership development, and policy advocacy centering LGBTQIA+ people most impacted by systemic oppression, including BIPOC, working-class, disabled, immigrant, and unhoused community members.

Today, QPA works to disrupt systems of oppression and advance housing justice, economic stability, healthcare access, civic engagement, and safety through community-led research, organizing, and advocacy. Our work is grounded in the belief that liberation is collective and that those closest to the challenges must lead the solutions.

Our Impact

Queer Power Alliance works to address the systemic disparities LGBTQIA+ communities face across housing, health, education, and economic opportunity by building collective power through advocacy, data, and grassroots organizing. Centering those most impacted, particularly BIPOC, low-income, and marginalized community members, we develop leadership, advance policy solutions, and create pathways for meaningful civic engagement, so LGBTQIA+ voices are not only heard but actively shape the decisions that impact their lives.

“Together, we are advancing a future rooted in collective care, dignity, and LGBTQIA+ liberation.”
