Housing Justice

Housing Is A Human Right

Safe, stable housing is foundational to health, dignity, and long-term well-being. LGBTQIA+ people face persistent barriers when seeking housing that is affordable, affirming, and secure.

Discrimination remains widespread. Landlords and property managers continue to deny housing, impose unfair treatment, or create hostile conditions based on sexual orientation, gender identity, race, disability, age, or income. At the same time, economic inequality and employment discrimination limit access to stable housing and increase vulnerability to displacement.

These conditions contribute to housing insecurity across LGBTQIA+ communities, particularly for those who are low-income, working-class, Black, Indigenous, people of color, trans, disabled, or otherwise marginalized.

Queer Power Alliance advances housing justice by organizing renters, developing community leadership, and advocating for equitable housing policy. We work to strengthen tenant protections, expand access to affordable housing, and build collective power so LGBTQIA+ people can remain rooted in their communities.

Through education, leadership development, and coordinated advocacy, we equip our communities with the knowledge and tools needed to protect their rights and shape housing systems toward equity and stability.

Queer Housing Justice Network

The Queer Housing Justice Network (QHJN) builds on QPA’s established Housing Justice work, which integrates education, outreach, advocacy, and community navigation to support renters most affected by discrimination, displacement, and rising housing costs. Together, we build renters' power and ensure queer and trans renters shape the policies and systems that affect our lives.

Renter’s Rights & Advocacy Workshops

Our quarterly renters’ trainings have helped hundreds of King County renters understand and apply their rights. The training sessions were crucial during the COVID-19 pandemic, when renters were concerned about late fees and evictions.

Educational Renters’ Rights Campaign

Queer Power Alliance is invested in LGBTQIA+ housing issues, bringing the community together to talk about their housing and neighborhood hopes and dreams, and ensuring access to safe housing and resources. Our goal is to build LGBTQIA+ community power and visibility within Seattle, King County, and Washington. Access to affordable housing is a crucial issue for LGBTQIA+ communities, as it impacts our safety and visibility as well as access to community, culture, history, direct services, and political clout.

Where we live has such a profound impact on our well-being; it is imperative that LGBTQIA+ voices sit at housing tables and advocate for the health of our community.

Annual Housing Forum & Resource HUB

We bring together over 20 community partners to connect directly with LGBTQIA+ community members and share vital housing resources in a space designed to be affirming, accessible, and community-centered. This event goes beyond information-sharing—it creates opportunities for meaningful engagement, where attendees can build relationships with service providers, organizers, and advocates who are actively working to address the systemic barriers our communities face. Participants will have access to resources ranging from tenant protections and housing navigation support to employment opportunities, healthcare access, and legal advocacy.

At its core, the Queer Housing Forum & Resource Hub is centered on building pathways to stable housing, livable wages, affirming healthcare, and political representation for our communities. Through facilitated conversations, workshops, and direct connections, we aim to empower individuals with the knowledge and tools needed to navigate systems, assert their rights, and take collective action. By bringing together community members, organizations, and decision-makers in one space, we are strengthening support networks and advancing community-driven solutions that move us toward long-term stability, equity, and justice for LGBTQIA+ people.
